About Me
Peerless Leadership Development Consulting
To say that a passion for education and mentoring are in my blood would be an understatement.
I grew up with a strong curiosity of the world around me, so a career in Science education seemed a natural pursuit for me. After earning a B.S. in Life Sciences, I went on to receive a Masters degree in Environmental Biology and my teaching credentials During 30 + years as a Science teacher in the Smithtown (Long Island, NY) Central School District, I successfully taught students of all interest and ability levels and “re-engaged” students enrolled in alternative high school science courses.
These young men and women were removed from traditional high school programs due to lack of cooperation, sense of purpose, and general lack of interest in the educational process. Through strong leadership skills, I redirected negative behavior patterns into positive behaviors and goal setting. This strategy lead the vast majority of students to completing their State exit exams in science (New York State Regents exams) and ultimately moved them closer to high school diplomas.
During my tenure, I was also given the opportunity to train and mentor teachers and serve in a leadership role on a variety of teams and committees. I used the same skills acquired mentoring students to lead committees and teams of peers and ensure full engagement while negotiating goals and productive group dynamics. I sought additional training and consulting skills for my leadership “toolbox” with extensive training through the Center for Teacher Effectiveness’ Time to Teach program as a seminar leader. This program is designed to assist teaching professionals on how to keep students engaged and improve their performance while reducing discipline problems.
After retiring from the Smithtown School District, I continued in the education arena as an adjunct instructor at Southern Maine Community College. During this time period, I also started my consulting business, Peerless Leadership Development . Through my consulting business, I am committed to reducing disconnections between administration, teachers, parents, students with challenging behaviors, and the community. With my extensive experience, I continue to help school leaders and education professionals improve productivity and interpersonal business relationships.
My expertise in leadership training has also allowed me to expand my horizons by reaching out to business owners and managers of small to mid-sized organizations. Having worked successfully with “disengaged” students, I teach managers and leaders how to gain commitment and accountability from coworkers who are struggling with communication breakdown and escalating resentments.
My most recent achievement is becoming a fully licensed and certified facilitator through TIGERS® Success Series which, with the resources and tools provided during my training, allows me to take my consulting and training to the next level. I am also proud of my membership in the elite TIGERS® Success Series “inner circle of group development consulting companies”.
Drawing on over 30 years of personal teaching experiences, certification as a life coach, training as a career consultant, and training as a licensed TIGERS® facilitator, I bring a fresh approach to the age old problem of sustaining motivation, commitment, and team connection within organizations.
